Rotate PDF pages and save the change permanently

A PDF can look upright in your reader and still arrive sideways when someone else opens it. Some readers rotate only the view. To keep the correction, the page orientation needs to be saved in a new PDF. FileMint lets you rotate individual pages or the whole document and download that corrected file.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open the PDF in Rotate PDF

    Choose the PDF file. The limit is 50 MB. For documents up to 300 pages, thumbnails help you identify the sideways pages. Longer documents use page numbers instead of thumbnail previews.

  2. Select only the pages that need fixing

    Click or tap a page to select it, or select several. If nothing is selected, Rotate left and Rotate right apply to every page. To fix one page in an otherwise upright document, select that page before using the rotation buttons.

  3. Turn 90° or 180°

    Press Rotate left or Rotate right once for a quarter-turn. For an upside-down page, press the same direction twice to turn it 180°. The previews update before you save, and each page can have a different rotation.

  4. Apply, download and reopen

    Select Apply rotation, then save the new PDF. Reopen that downloaded file to check the orientation. Send the new copy rather than the original file, which has not been changed.

Select page 4 only. If the top of its text points to the right, turn it left once; if it points to the left, turn it right once. Check the preview and apply the rotation. The remaining pages keep their existing orientation.

If every page is upside down, clear the selection and press Rotate right twice. With no selection, those two turns apply to the whole document. Review the preview before downloading.

Rotate, flip and mirror are different operations

People often say “flip a document” when they mean turn an upside-down page upright. A 180° rotation does that. Mirroring reflects the page left-to-right and reverses the text. FileMint rotates PDF pages; it does not mirror them or rotate Word documents.

Changing a page from portrait to landscape rotates the existing content with it. This does not rearrange paragraphs into a new layout or convert a scan into editable text.

Will text and images lose quality?

The rotation operation changes the page orientation without rasterizing the pages or recompressing their images. Selectable text remains selectable. A scanned page remains a scan: rotating it does not add text recognition.

Saving rewrites the PDF structure, so the file size can change. The important check is that the new file opens and the page content looks correct, rather than expecting exactly the same number of bytes.

The file is still sideways after downloading

Check that you reopened the new download rather than the original. Downloads with similar names are easy to confuse. Also check that you selected Apply rotation after changing the preview; turning the thumbnail alone does not save a file.

A PDF that requires an opening password must first be unlocked in software where you are authorized to do so. FileMint does not provide a password-entry or password-removal tool.
